Teaching Philosophy

Elementary Classroom
Beliefs

My philosophy of teaching is rooted in the belief that every student is unique with limitless potential to learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Educators help students develop the skills and attitudes necessary to become life-long learners and successful citizens. I teach and support skills that allow students to be responsible for their own learning while working independently and collaboratively.
Style
Art Fun

My style of teaching is joyful, inquiry based, and student centered. I use cooperative learning with my students to foster deep thinking, perspective taking, and teamwork. I do this by incorporating partner and group work into lessons such as think-pair-share, turn-and-talks, jigsaw teams, and peer tutoring/peer feedback.

Demonstrating passion and enthusiasm is also an important part of my teaching practice. I use humor, intonation, gestures, and movement to make lessons engaging for students. I also weave personal stories into lessons which allows students to connect with the curriculum; this makes the content meaningful and relevant. My teaching style allows me create a classroom culture of exploration, conversation, deep thinking, and joy.

Management
School Cones in Class

My classroom management style is fair, supportive, and consistent. Naturally, I will develop a classroom environment that is safe, predictable, welcoming, and collaborative. I will...

  • Engage students to reduce disruptions to learning and teaching.

  • Present information in different ways based on students’ culture, background knowledge, and learning styles.

  • Develop and model routines consistently to provide students with clear expectations for learning and behavior.

  • Create a classroom community that keeps the environment organized and maintained.

  • Develop genuine relationships to build trust and respect, which form a foundation for learning and behavior regulation.

  • Give students choices with natural and logical consequences to develop intrinsic motivation and self-regulation skills.

  • Provide a safe place where students can make mistakes, learn from those mistakes, and work on self-regulation.
